I love Twitter! This is sort of a major statement for me to make since I am still on the bunny slope of tweets and hashtags. It’s a brave new world and I am not ashamed to admit that it’s hard for this girl to condense my thoughts to 140 characters! I’m from the South; I can barely say hello in less than 140 characters!
So why am I endorsing Twitter as the new communication beacon? Because my in-this-moment, whatever it is that I’m doing “thing” has a name in the world of Twitter. I’m chasing my #encore career! What a great description, much better than my dry as a bone “mid-life career change” explanation. I think of an encore as a bonus and a magnificent, unexpected gift. And that’s what I’m chasing, and practicing, and planning, and hope to do as a just-hatched geriatric care manager.
Baby boomers unite! Who knew? We get an encore performance. Sing your heart out and dance like no one is watching. Do your very best and hopefully you’ll get a standing ovation.
I read two articles yesterday/this morning that are pretty relevant, I think, to the idea of an encore career.
The first highlights the importance and health benefits of life-long learning: http://www.aeonmagazine.com/world-views/anyone-can-learn-to-be-a-polymath/
The second is a bit more of a how-to guide for learning new skills and taking them in an entrepreneurial direction: http://www.tylerwardis.com/how-to-become-a-jack-of-all-trades-master-of-many/
